Dalhousie
Dalhousie is one of the most famous hill stations in north India. It is situated in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Filled with old world charm and fantastic scenic beauty, it attracts numerous visitors from not only from India but also from all around the world. It is 80 km away from Pathankot. In comparison to other hill stations of India, Dalhousie is different and enjoys old world charm. Spread over five hills, it offers spectacular view of nature at its best. Attractive cottages and villas cling to the deodar and pine mantled hills of Dalhousie. Here at Dalhousie, nothing seems to matter except the beauty and the moment. All this and more make Dalhousie a much demanded tourist place in India. Pink and red rhododendrons are in bloom. The trees are dressed in different shades of green. There is no swirl of traffic. The shops are small and trim.

Prime Attractions in Dalhousie

Jandhri Ghat : A short distance from the Subhash Baoli, Jandhri Ghat wraps a magnificent palace in the midst of tall pine trees. It offers picture-perfect spots for picnic in the midst of fragrant pine-scented breezes.

Bakrota Hills and the ‘Round’ : Less than 5 km from the town centre, the Bakrota Hills gives a breathtaking view of the further snow-clad peaks. The 'round' is a walling circuit around the hill, very popular with residents.

Satdhara : On the way to Panchpula, at an altitude of 2,036 m, these seven springs are reputed to have great therapeutic value as they contain mica with medicinal properties and a bath in the waters is suppose to cure you of all diseases.

Subhash Baoli : At a distance of 1 km is Subhash Baoli, an enchanting spot surrounded by majestic trees. Subhash Chandra Bose spent a lot of time in 1937, contemplating and meditating at this place, giving it the name of Subhash Baoli.

Panchpula : At a short distance from Dalhousie is Panchpula, a picturesque spot where a stream feeds a series of pools. A monument has been built here in memory of the freedom fighter, Sardar Ajit Singh.

Kalatope Wildlife Sanctuary : About 10 km from Dalhousie is this wild life sanctuary, which is a home to the 'ghoral' and Himalayan black bear and other wildlife species.

Khajjiar : At a distance of 27 km from Dhoudar the beautiful little plain of Khajjiar is one of the delightful retreats for visitors. A little golden- spired temple of Khajjinag belonging to the 12th century and a picturesque golf course adds to the exquisite beauty of this pretty spot. A picturesque spot with an emerald, saucer shaped meadow set amidst a thick deodar forest, Khajjiar is an exact place to spend vacations and is very popular destination amongst tourists.

Churches : The churches of Dalhousie are worth visiting. There are four beautiful churches in Dalhousie, which are a beauty in themselves. These are St. Andrew's Church and St. Patrick's Church at Balun, St. Francis Church at Subhash Chowk and the last one is St. John's Church at Gandhi Chowk.

How to get there

By Air : The airport at Gaggal in Kangra is at a distance of 135 km.

By Road : Dalhousie is 485 km by road from Delhi and 52 km from Chamba.

By Rail : The closest railhead is Pathankot-80 km away. Taxis and buses are easily available from these places.
